Thur 25th February 2010 v United at the Waverley
Score : 383-364 (Won by 19)
Megastars undo United
We were never in much danger
of losing this one - we played very well, scoring our highest team total of the
season at the Waverley against struggling United. Throwing first we went 11 up,
despite only scoring 52, which we increased to 17 with a 58 hand on the 2nd.
After 4 hands we were leading by 19, which was reduced to 13 on the 5th with a
poor 48 hand. A 58 on the 6th got our lead back to 21 and another win to keep us
in 4th position in the league.
Echo man - JK with 59.
Fri 19th February 2010 v Wanderers at Southill Snooker Club
Score : 418-440 (Lost by 22)
Megastars lose their way to Wanderers
We were well into this game
after the first 3 hands - a slender lead of 3 pins, but title chasing Wanderers
really got going with hands of 68, 69 & 76 and we were 25 down after the 6th
hand - we played quite well, but once again finding stickups has become a
problem, only 1 this week.

Thur 11th February 2010 v Wings at the Waverley
Score : 366-354 (Won by 12)
Rats leads Megastars victory in local derby
The quote "you know when times are hard when you have to rely on Rats" was
heard quite a lot during this game - Rats was the main reason we won this one,
he equalled our Waverley alley record with 62 which included TWO stickups
- the rest of us were poor, only Cliff scoring more than 50. Anyway, a win's a
win and we were lucky to get it - Wings were gutted - ho ho!! Throwing second we
took a single pin lead, which we increased to 12 on the 2nd with a 57 hand,
which included Dover's first stickup of the season. Wings then hit a 59 on the
3rd and we were suddenly 1 behind! We responded well on 4th and 5th hands with
56 & 55 to take our lead back to 12 which increased to 14 after the 6th. We lost
2 pins on the last for a fortunate win.
Echo man - Rats with 62 - Equalled Megastars Waverley alley record.
Tues 9th February 2010 v Head Cases at the Belvedere (Sec Cup 3)
Score : 392-375 (Won by 17)
Megastars Cup run continues.......
We made it into the last 4 of
the Secretaries Cup with a tough fought victory over Div 4 leaders, Head Cases
in a very sporting game. We threw first and took a 4 pin lead, which we
increased to 18 by the 4th hand. Head Cases replied to our 5th hand of 50 with a
63 to reduce the lead to just 5 pins - game on! When it mattered we scored a 64
hand without a stickup, to go 15 up, which we increased to 17 on the last. Just
one win away from a cup final............

Fri 5th February 2010 v Legionaires at Portland RBL
Score : 424-466 (Lost by 42)
Megastars hit by stickup fest.
This is not a good alley for
us and so it proved once again, despite us playing well the only difference
between the teams was the number of stickups - we got 1, they got 10. Throwing
second, we went 5 behind on the 1st despite hitting 61. By the 3rd, the deficit
was 17 which we reduced to 13 with a 65 4th hand and our only stickup from MLS
(12). A 57 on the 5th saw us 20 behind - still an outside chance or so we
thought, Legionaires hit a staggering 83 on the 6th - game over, 40 behind. We
will win on this alley one day............

Thu 28th January 2010 v Red Barrels at the Waverley
Score : 371-356 (Won by 15)
Megastars climb up the league continues
Throwing first, we got off to
a flyer, scoring 59, JK hitting a rare Waverley stickup (12), and we took a 7
pin lead, which we increased to 13 on the 2nd despite only scoring 53. After a
poor hand of 45 on the 3rd, we were expecting the worse, but Barrels find this
alley difficult and only managed to pull 2 pins back. We scored an average 52 on
the 3rd, and were shocked to see our lead reduced to just a single pin, after a
62 hand which included TWO stickups - unheard of at the Waverley! We came back
at them in style scoring 60 which included a remarkable stickup from El Tel -
his first since 25th April 2008 !! His second ball took a 'backwards 3' -
Landlord, second Backer and Winger - you don't see that too often ,especially at
the Waverley!! Anyway that hand gave us an 8 pin lead which was maintained after
the 6th hand was tied. We gave them a chance on the last hand, scoring only 49,
to them 57 to win, but the pressure told and they folded in dramatic style, only
scoring 42, to leave us winning by 15 and 4th in the league. Another notable
event was that Ben 'Dover' was top score - he really does struggle on this
alley.

Fri 22nd January 2010 v Imps at Wyke WMC
Score : 401-384 (Won by 17)
Megastars back to winning ways
We haven't played at this
alley for a few seasons, and faced an in form, high flying Imps team. Throwing
first we only scored 52 and were surprised to take a 4 pin lead, which was
reduced to 2 after the 2nd. An impressive 61 on the 3rd without a stickup gave
us an 8 pin lead. The next 2 hands were tied and we edged another pin ahead on
the 6th despite only scoring 52. Saving our best to last we hit a mighty 65 with
Cliff scoring the only stickup of the night to leave Imps needing 75 to win - a
daunting task which they weren't up to - we took another 8 pins to win by 17.

Thu 14th January 2010 v Barmy Army at the Waverley
Score : 359-380 (Lost by 21)
Megastars winning run ended
Our recent good run was ended
with a thumping defeat at the hands of Barmy Army who scored a very good 380 - a
score that will win most matches at the Waverley. We were doing OK up to the 4th
hand - leading by 7, but after a poor 5th hand of 47, we were 5 down. Our 6th
hand was a disaster - only 44, including an OXO - Army were on the move and
scored 59 - 19 down and the match gone, we lost another 2 on the last hand.
Echo man - Cliff with 52.
Fri 8th January 2010 v Wyke Social at Wyke Social
Score : 414-402 (Won by 12)
Megastars not so Sociable
Throwing first we established
an early lead of 12 with a 61 hand and increased this to 16 on the 2nd.
Struggling Social came back at us with 2 good hands to reduce our lead to just 5
after the 4th hand, game on !! We responded with a 61 hand on the 5th, winning
the hand by 10 - a lead of 15, which we increased to 17 on the 6th. We lost a
few on the last hand, but it was all over by then - an excellent win.

Score : 406-370 (Won by 36)

Thu 10th December 2009 v Shamrocks at the Waverley
Score : 369-341 (Won by 28)
Megastars triumph in local derby
We continued our recent good
run with an emphatic win, although it started with a disastrous 1st hand of just
42 !! - luckily we only lost 6 pins and
were level after the 2nd. The next two hands effectively won us the game - 60
and 61 to give us a lead of 34. We lost the last 3 hands, but not by enough to
make a difference, winning by 28 and climbing to 6th in the league.
Echo man - Shakey with 49.
Fri 4th December 2009 v All Blacks at the Waverley
Score : 366-356 (Won by 10)
Megastars triumph in local derby
We were never in much trouble
at any time in this local derby, although All Blacks were without a few key
players, we showed no mercy. Throwing 2nd we went into a 10 pin lead with a 57
hand, increasing the lead to 13 after the 2nd. We lost a couple on the next but
steadily increased our lead to 22 by the 6th, with JK hitting a rare Waverley
stickup. The Xmas spirit and the beer told on the last hand we lost it by 12 to
win by 10.

Thu 26th November 2009 v Wyke Army at Wyke Smugglers in the Sec Cup Round 1
Score : 401-377 (Won by 24)
Megastars march past the Army
A rest from the league this
week when we played Div 3 strugglers Wyke Army in the Cup. We were never behind
all night but it wasn't until the 6th hand that we felt safe. The Army never
surrendered and only some timely stickups from JK, Sykes and Shakey saved us
from further embarrassment by being beaten by lower league opposition.

Thu 19th November 2009 v PBLC 'C' at the Waverley
Score : 357-365 (Lost by 8)
Megastars beaten by stickups at the Waverley
We were never in this game
until the last hand when PBLC had a disaster, scoring only 39 to leave us 60 to
win. We failed of course, scoring 51 to lose by 8......there were lots of 'if
onlys' in the post match chat. Throwing second we were 4 behind after the first
hand which steadily increased to 20 by the 6th hand. For an alley where stickups
are a rarity, PBLC hit THREE of them during the game, which was difference
between the teams. Oh well, there's always the cup.........

Fri 13th November 2009 v 69ers at NPWMC
Score : 385-366 (Won by 19)
Megastars turn over 69ers
Throwing second we went 7 behind on the first hand chasing 59. With stickups
from Cliff and Rats on the 2nd we took a 2 pin lead which was extended to 7 on
the 3rd despite an oxo. 57 without a stickup on the 4th hand combined with a
poor hand from 69ers saw us lead by 21. An excellent 6th hand of 67 with
stickups from the bottom 2 - JK (13) and Kecons (15) gave us a 30 pin lead.
69ers pulled back 11 on the last hand for us to win by 19.Echo man - JK with

Thu 5th November 2009 v Pinups at Waverley
Score : 343-389 (Lost by 46)
Megastars well beaten
We struggled to raise a team
for this game, with holiday, work and other commitments leaving us with only 6
regulars. We fielded a new player, Andy 'Reds' Redhead and an ex-Megastar, Rob
'Snide' Smale to make up the numbers. We played fairly well for the first 5
hands, only 17 behind, but Pinups seem to have mastered our alley, regularly
scoring hands in the high 50's. They totalled 389 which is probably the
highest score for any team since the new balls were used.
